Clay golems search nearby marked chests for (a) specific item(s) to place into their chest. They're kind of like the opposite of stone golems which focus on emptying a specific thing from their chest.

Here's a link to a video that explains the clay golem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TPIySNTXvA

Advanced Uses[]

Once assigned to a chest, they will ask what item (or items if they have the intelligent core) to search for. They search nearby chests for specific items and, if they find the item they are assigned to look for, they will pick it up and put it in their assigned chest.

They can also be assigned to furnaces to keep it stocked with specific ores. The only downfall is, they cannot search chests that are not marked in any way. There must be some sort of marker block to let them know which chests to search. You can, however, tell it to only search for items in chests with a specific color of marker.

Finally, they can be told to keep a certain number of that/those items in their chest/furnace. For example, if you give them two iron ores and tell them to keep the furnace with that specific amount, they will run to nearby marked chests for more ores each time one is smelted, to try to keep the number at 2. They will not react to more bei

Thaumonomicon Entry[]

"Clay golems are a further refinement of the stone golem research. Unlike stone golems, clay golems will try and keep items you specify in the inventory it is assigned to. It can be commanded to keep the exact number you specify, or as many as it can fit in the container. It will fetch these items from other inventories within range that has been marked with Marker Blocks.

Like stone golems they can draw from all marked blocks, or just a colour you specified.

Clay golems are intelligent enough to move and place items into the side of the inventory they were assigned to."
