The Hungry Chest is a research which, once unlocked, allows you to craft a chest the size of a single normal chest, and that will "consume" items within a single block. The items are placed inside the chest for storage. This can be useful for a few different applications.
Here's a video that shows you how the hungry chest works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLOIBzFOm_0
Thaumonomicon Entry
"The hungry chest is able to pick up items by itself if they are dropped close enough to touch it."
Useful Applications
- Catch chest for an Infernal Furnace
- Garbage Chute
- Catch chest for an automated farm
- Mob/xp farm
- Put it at the other end of a Magic Mirror, and have a linked Hand Mirror.
